This week, the Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) completes a multi-year strategy to realign its real estate assets for another generation of service to mariners. SCI moves its Manhattan offices from near South Street Seaport to 74 Trinity Place.
The headquarters of SCI’s 178-year-old mission to mariners shifts to a new location within the New York Harbor, steps away from historic Trinity Church Wall Street, one of the churches that helped found the Institute. The newly renovated suite provides offices for SCI’s Executive Director and Development and Finance teams.
SCI’s New York office relocation completes a real estate realignment strategy the Institute’s Board of Trustees adopted nearly five years ago. The considered plan included comprehensive renovations to SCI’s Port Newark International Seafarers’ Center, positioning programs previously housed in New York, including the Center for Seafarers’ Rights and Christmas at Sea volunteer knitting program, nearer to the mariners the Institute serves. SCI sold its former headquarters, a six-story facility on Water Street, in February 2011, with an eye toward moving the New York offices to a more appropriately sized footprint for the Institute’s headquarters staff.
SCI’s two New York Harbor locations supplement centers in Paducah, KY; Houston, TX; and Oakland, CA.
Effective immediately, all Executive Director, Development and Finance correspondence should go to 74 Trinity Place, Suite 1414, New York, NY 10006. Callers can continue to dial SCI’s New York headquarters at 212-349-9090.
All Center for Seafarers’ Rights and Christmas at Sea mail should go to SCI’s Port Newark facility at 118 Export Street, Port Newark, NJ 07114. This facility’s phone number remains 973-589-5828.
