Nestlehutt, Schifflin—Panelists at 2025 CMA Shipping Conference

The 40th edition of CMA Shipping, North America’s premier maritime industry conference, will take place April 1-3 in Stamford, CT. The event brings together influential maritime professionals, annually providing a platform to connect and discuss key challenges and issues in the shipping industry. The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) will once again be in attendance, with the Rev. Mark Nestlehutt, SCI’s President & Executive Director, and Phil Schifflin, Esq., Director of the Center for Mariner Advocacy, speaking on two panels.

Rev. Mark Nestlehutt will join Jim Lawrence, Chairman, President, and Founding Partner of Marine Money/MTI Network-USAand SCI Board Member, for “Panel 3: Anatomy of an Allision – Baltimore Bridge Incident.” This discussion will analyze the insurance implications and key takeaways from the Baltimore Bridge disaster.

Later, Phil Schifflin will be part of “Panel 5: Reporting on Proposed Changes to MLC 2006 & the U.S. Labor Market Check-In,” alongside Dr. Jason Zuidema, Executive Director of NAMMA and General Secretary of ICMA, and Dr. Jens Tulsner, CEO of Marine Medical Solutions. This session will address seafarer welfare, proposed Maritime Labor Convention (MLC) reforms, and industry commitments to creating a fairer, more inclusive shipping sector.

SCI will also host a booth on the exhibition floor, providing attendees with insights into its operational scope in the Port of New York and New Jersey, the Inland Waterways, the Gulf Coast, and its crisis response initiatives worldwide.
