Statement: Galaxy Leader Seafarer Release

The Seamen’s Church Institute Welcomes the Release of the Galaxy Leader Hostages

The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) and its Center for Mariner Advocacy (CMA) are relieved and delighted to learn of the safe release of the hostages from the Galaxy Leader. This event represents a significant moment of hope for the maritime community and for all those who work diligently to ensure the safety and security of seafarers around the world.

SCI President and Executive Director noted: “Throughout this ordeal, CMA Director Phil Schifflin, Esq., has worked closely with partners at the International Christian Maritime Association (ICMA) to engage in discussions on the margins in advocating for the seafarers’ release. These, and the many other conversations targeting this issue over the past year, have underscored the power of solidarity and the collective commitment of the global maritime community to stand with seafarers in times of crisis.”

While The Seamen’s Church Institute (SCI) is deeply thankful for the release of these seafarers, we recognize that certain regions still remain perilous for both seafarers and global shipping. SCI will remain steadfast in its commitment to advocating for safer seas and the well-being of seafarers and their families.
