Welcome to Christmas at Sea – On the River

Embodying a ministry of presence, SCI Chaplains travel thousands of miles each year visiting mariners at work, providing joyful services such as delivering holiday gifts and performing vessel christenings, as well as responding to crises and supporting them through difficult life events. SCI Chaplains and Chaplain Associates are experienced in counseling and helping those employed on the river. We know that the stresses of the job combined with isolation from family during the holidays can be tough. And we are here to help.

SCI’s Center for Mariner Advocacy (CMA) provides legal services for mariners around the world. If you need help or advice, email [email protected], with a description of the issue, and include your location, vessel name, and country of registry.

Christmas at Sea (CAS) is SCI’s tradition of gifting handmade garments to mariners at Christmastime. CAS is our way of expressing gratitude for the vital work you do. Over 1,000 volunteers from the United States and beyond donate over 28,000 gifts annually.

Our volunteers delight in seeing photographs of mariners wearing their knits and crochets; please take pictures and share them with us at [email protected]. Thank you and happy holidays!
